The Adaptive Fishing Model presented in the latter part of the book is a conceptual framework anglers can use to organize their knowledge and integrate it with what is currently known about their target species.
It is also useful to recognize up-front that anglers can catch fish without much knowledge of theory. Intuition and pattern recognition are innate capabilities of the human mind that are constantly working to solve problems and help us make better decisions. These two processes operate at conscious and subconscious levels, and they will create a learning path as the mind is applied to fishing. Nevertheless, conscious decision-making will accelerate learning and convert your experience into real knowledge much more quickly and in a targeted way, to what you as an angler need to know to improve your fishing. You can catch plenty of fish without adaptive thinking. However, you will fall short of achieving your full potential as an angler without using science, experience, and behavioral tools to break through barriers, accelerate learning, and hone your adaptive edge.
